I'm Kirstie and I'm the founder of Palomino Equine Collection, a small equine brand specialising in high quality yet affordable equestrian leggings and performance wear. We launched in May 2023 with the help and support of our local equestrian community here in Swansea, South Wales and we operate as a sole tradership. 

​

Owning an equestrian brand was never meant to be part of my story - ​but that all changed when I came back to riding after having a c-section in 2022. Like many new mums, my body didn't feel like mine any more, and the riding leggings I had previously loved no longer looked or felt good on my body. I was an entirely different shape, still sore, tired and felt self conscious to the point where I didn't even want to get on a horse.

That feeling only got worse when a pair of leggings - from a leading brand - split down the middle seam! 

​

I was horrified. I was wearing a size medium, and despite how dreadful I felt about myself, I was still only a size 12 so those leggings really should have been able to cope with a bit of weight gain. 

​

That's when I took matters into my own hands. I taught myself all about retail, textiles and the production and manufacturing industry, and six months later, after some short crash courses and some major lessons learned excersises, I launched Palomino with a goal to make every woman feel golden - regardless of age, body type, ability in the saddle or discipline.

I set out to create a community where equestrians from all disciplines can feel included without judgement. Social media will have us all believe that we should all be hurling ourselves around Burghley, but let's be honest, (whilst I'd love to be able to grace top dressage arenas myself,) the reality is that every equestrian story is different, and you shouldn't feel like you don't fit in just because you don't do a particular discipline. The way we see it here at Palomino - you don't need to even put your foot in the stirrup to be a brilliant equestrian. Maybe you're an expert breeder who has never ridden, or maybe you're a don in-hand in the show-ring. We're all on the same team and everybody deserves to look and feel their best.

And feeling your best is integral to our business. Palomino horses are renowned for their uniqueness. They stand out and they bring the sunshine - and that's what we endeavour to bring to our range and to our customers. We want you to recognise how unique you are, and of course, we also endeavour to bring the sunshine!

This journey hasn't been easy - for one - when we began, I was a new mum and I also have a full time job and I went back to work in the process, but luckily for me, I have a supportive family network who gave up (and who still give up their time) to help the business thrive. We do everything outside of our day jobs, and it works like an absolute dream. 

​

Palomino is my passion and, aside from my family and horses, it's the joy in my life. It gives me a world to escape to beyond the stresses of the 9-5 but beyond that, it's hugely rewarding. Because seeing an equestrian walk out in our leggings with supreme confidence is... the best feeling you could possibly have. It's a real privilege to be able to dress a person and watch as they suddenly start to see themselves as you do. ​​​​​​​​​
